§ 26-142. Eligibility for permit.

  • (a)

    No permit shall be issued to any person to do or cause to be done any construction or work regulated by this article, except to a person holding a valid, unexpired and unrevoked certificate of competency as required by section 26-203, except as otherwise provided in this article.

    (b)

    Any permit required by this article may be issued to any person to do any construction or work regulated by this article in a single-family dwelling used exclusively for living purposes, including the usual accessory buildings and quarters in connection with such buildings, if any such person is the bona fide owner of any such dwelling and accessory buildings and quarters, and the dwelling and accessory buildings are occupied by the owner, provided that the owner shall personally purchase all material and shall personally perform all labor in connection therewith, and provided that the owner can answer questions and draw such sketches as are required by the department to show that he has sufficient knowledge and skill to install the electrical work in a safe manner and according to the rules and regulations of this article.

    (c)

    Any person, including the city-parish consolidated government, who is the bona fide owner of any premises, and who regularly employs one or more electricians for work on the premises, may engage in any electrical maintenance work, provided such work is done in compliance with this article.
