§ 2-81. Return check charges for payment of property tax; fees.

  • When a tax payer or mortgage lender for a tax payer submits a check or money order in payment of property tax and the check is returned for insufficient funds, stopped payment, insufficient number of signatures required, under the amount required, frozen account, refer to maker, account closed or for whatever reason the bank/lending institution might enumerate, the taxpayer or issuer of the payment item shall be required to pay an allocable delinquent interest and/or penalty, if delinquent, until restitution/payment of original remittance is made. There shall also be assessed a charge of $25.00 or five percent of the face amount of the check, whichever is greater, against the involved assessment/taxpayer, such charge to be paid at the time payment for the returned funds item is made.
