§ 42-67. Owner's or operator's license required.

  • (a)

    The city-parish president or his designee is responsible for issuance and revocation of ambulance permits. A permit shall be issued only after a certificate of need and necessity has been granted by the emergency medical services advisory board.

    (b)

    No ambulance may respond to any emergency with its origin in the city and/or parish or any nonemergency transport with both origin and destination within the city and/or parish, unless the ambulance operator has a valid and current permit to operate in the city and/or parish.

    (c)

    No owner or operator of an ambulance shall permit it to be used or operated upon the streets of the city and/or parish without first obtaining a permit from the city-parish president and/or his designee.

    (d)

    No owner or operator of an ambulance shall permit ground ambulances, emergency medical response vehicles or nationally registered emergency medical technicians to be used for standby emergency and/or nonemergency services, unless the ambulance owner or operator has a valid and current ambulance permit to operate in the city and/or parish.
