§ 42-86. Certification of ambulances.

  • (a)

    Before any permit shall be issued, all of the ambulances listed in the application shall be certified by the applicant to be in proper mechanical condition. Each ambulance shall be certified by the applicant that it is equipped as mandated by this section and is in compliance with all applicable provisions of this division.

    (b)

    Certifications shall be renewed annually.

    (c)

    Each owner or operator shall pay to the director of the administrative services a fee of $20.00 annually for each vehicle to be inspected; such fee to be due on the date of the initial inspection for any given year.

    (d)

    Any person who operates an ambulance not certified to be in proper mechanical condition shall be guilty of a violation of this article and shall be punished as provided in section 42-63.

    (e)

    The owner and/or operator of any ambulance whose ambulance has a mechanical defect shall be given seven days in which to have it repaired. After the expiration of the seven days, the name, registration and license number of each ambulance remaining uncertified shall be given to the police department and city-parish president or his designee for enforcement.
