§ 78-2. Footraces and parades (City of Lafayette).

  • (a)

    Definitions. For purposes of this section, the following definitions shall apply:

    (1)

    Footrace means any event wherein an organized gathering of people would engage, under some type of sponsorship, in a footrace on a public street and/or sidewalk that would have the potential of adversely impacting traffic flow and/or public safety.

    (2)

    Parade means a procession of people, vehicles and/or public safety.

    (b)

    Applicability. This section applies only in the city.

    (c)

    Regulations. The chief of police shall promulgate rules and regulations to govern footraces and parades held upon the streets and/or sidewalks.

    (d)

    Application for permit. Any person seeking to conduct any footrace or parade upon the streets and/or sidewalks shall apply to the chief of police or his designee at least 30 days prior to the event for a permit to hold such event, and shall supply to the chief of police or his designee any information requested concerning such event.

    (e)

    Permit fee. Any person seeking to conduct any footrace or parade upon the streets and/or sidewalks shall pay a fee of $10.00 to the division of revenue collection prior to the permit being granted.

    (f)

    Enforcement. The police department shall have full power to enforce the rules promulgated by the chief of police in this regard.

    (g)

    Compliance. No footrace or parade may be held on any of the streets and/or sidewalks unless the provisions of this section are complied with.

    (h)

    Exceptions. A procession of people and/or vehicles traveling on the streets and/or sidewalks as part of a funeral is expressly excluded from the requirements of this section.
