§ 78-141. General standards.

Latest version.
  • General standards for street cuts and bores are as follows:

    (1)

When utility pipes are encased, the casing shall extend through the street from the top bank of ditch to top bank of ditch on back slope side and are to be not less than four feet beyond the back of the curb. Pipes or casings shall be not less than 42 inches below the pavement surface or less than 18 inches below the theoretical flow line of the drainage pipe. For ditch or channel crossings, utility pipes or casings shall not be less than 42 inches below the theoretical flow line of the ditch or channel. Crossing shall be made at as nearly a right angle to the roadway center as possible. No existing drainage structures may be used for the purpose of pipe crossing. If a street is cut, it shall be done one half at a time, thereby allowing traffic on the other half; except that with proper utility notification and public works department approval, the entire street may be cut at one time.

    (2)

When pipes are installed and all necessary testing has been approved, the restoration work shall then be completed before the beginning of construction on another section of the project.
