§ 89-81. Garages/carports.

    (a)

    Applicability.

    (1)

    This subsection applies to garages and carports in the City of Lafayette and the unincorporated areas of the parish that are not zoned.

    (2)

    These terms are defined below:

    Carport
    A permanent roofed structure open on at least two sides, designed for or occupied by private passenger vehicles.
    Garage An enclosed building or structure used or designed to be used to park and store vehicles.

     

    (b)

    Setbacks.

    (1)

    Minimum setbacks from a property line along a public street are:

    Garage/Carport Orientation Setback (minimum)
    Garage/Carport Dwelling Unit
    Perpendicular to the public street 20 feet
    20 feet S (MX, D districts only)
    10 feet or as determined by applicable zoning district, whichever is less
    Parallel to the public street 10 feet
    5 feet S (MX, D only)
    As determined by zoning district, if applicable

     

    S = setback from front plane of the principal structure.

    (2)

    In all districts other than MX or D, the primary garage or carport may be detached and located in front of the principal structure subject to all minimum setback requirements.
