§ 98-47. General regulations.

  • The following general regulations shall apply to all vehicles for hire:

    (1)

    Every vehicle shall have displayed conspicuously on each side of the vehicle, in proportionate letters not less than two inches in height, the name of the person owning the vehicle for hire. Magnetic signs may be used.

    (2)

    Each vehicle for hire shall bear on its back in letters not less than three inches in height and one-half inch in width, the permit number and the unit number issued by customer service.

    (3)

    No signs, devices or emblems of any kind shall be placed on the windshield or any other part of the vehicle that would in any way obscure or interfere with the vision of the driver of the vehicle.

    (4)

    Every vehicle for hire shall have a card posted on the inside of the vehicle in full view of all passengers and enclosed in a frame with a transparent covering showing the unit number.

    (5)

    Every vehicle for hire shall have a card posted on the inside of the vehicle in full view of all passengers and enclosed in a frame with a transparent covering showing the fares charged and, if applicable, the zone map used.

    (6)

    Every vehicle for hire driver shall post his/her police department issued license either on the left pocket of his/her shirt or on his/her driver's side visor in order that the passenger can ascertain that the driver and the person pictured on the license are one and the same, and in order that the passenger can identify the driver, as necessary.

    (7)

    Every taxicab shall charge established passenger fares using one or more of the following methods.

    a.

    Per mile traveled, or portion thereof, as determined by a properly functioning taximeter;

    b.

    A flat-rate established by a zone map; and/or

    c.

    A flat-rate to and from major pickup areas, including but not limited to, the rate from the Lafayette Regional Airport to major hotels and the rate from the Rosa Parks Transportation Center to major hotels.
