§ 4-13. Police department.

    The director of the police department shall be the chief of police who shall be appointed by the President in accordance with applicable state police civil service law.

    B.

    The chief of police shall direct and be responsible for the preservation of public peace and order, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, assistance to the courts and other law enforcement officials, and the enforcement of the laws of the state and ordinances of the Council in the police protection urban services district consisting of the geographic limits of the City of Lafayette, as provided in the section on "Urban Services Districts."

    C.

    Law enforcement personnel of the police protection urban services district shall be a part of the police civil service system as provided by state law.
