§ 38-54. Definitions.

  • (1)

    Approved automatic sprinkler system. "Approved automatic sprinkler system" shall be one which is approved in writing by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal.

    (2)

    Approved emergency-type smoke detector alarm system . "Approved emergency-type smoke detector alarm system" shall be one which is approved in writing by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal.

    (3)

    Enlarged . "Enlarged" shall mean the inclusion of additional space to the building, either horizontally or vertically.

    (4)

    Lafayette Utilities System Service . "Lafayette Utilities System Service" shall include the supplying of electricity and/or water and/or sewerage disposal service by the City of Lafayette.

    (5)

    N.F.P.A. "N.F.P.A." shall mean and refer to the National Fire Protection Association.

    (6)

    Parking deck . "Parking deck" shall mean a special structure limited in use only to the temporary parking of motor vehicles as further defined and regulated under sections 201.2 and 507.1, 507.2 of the Southern Standard Building Code, 1969 edition as revised, 1972.

    (7)

    Renovation or remodeling . "Renovation or remodeling" shall mean any alteration of walls and/or partitions, including the adding of new walls or the removing of old walls, which will have the effect of altering, changing, enlarging, or reducing in size the area enclosed within or affected by the walls by more than 25 percent. In computing the percentage change, total changes occurring within any given total five-year period shall be determinative. Renovation or remodeling shall also mean the addition to the building of combustible materials with a flame spread of more than 75 and an increase in the fire load in excess of ten pounds per square foot per floor.

    (8)

    Vertical height of building . "Vertical height of building" shall be determined as provided in chapter II "Definition of Height" and section 402.3 for exceptions to height of the Southern Standard Building Code, 1969 edition.
